Terms of Use
Last updated: 20 September 2026
These terms describe the conditions for using The Indic Journal, including its reader accounts, comments, contribution forms and other website features. The publication is operated by an independent individual publisher based in Sweden. Questions can be sent to contact@theindicjournal.com.
Please read these terms before using interactive features. A separately agreed contributor, advertising or paid-service arrangement may contain additional terms for that service. Nothing here removes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, and browsing this website is not consent to optional tracking or marketing.
Accounts · Submissions · Content rights · Paid content and support · Complaints and legal rights
1. The publication and its services
We publish news, analysis, opinion, explainers and other material relating to India and the wider world. Articles, archives and features may be added, corrected, reorganised or discontinued. Availability of a dashboard section or enquiry form does not itself constitute an offer of a paid product, employment or guaranteed publication.
News changes over time. Dates, sources and labels help distinguish reporting from commentary or promotional material. Please read our Disclaimer and Editorial Policy for the context in which material is provided.
2. Accounts and account security
Provide accurate information needed for your account, keep your contact email current and use a password that you do not reuse elsewhere. A public display name need not expose unnecessary private information, but must not impersonate another person or falsely suggest an affiliation. Do not share an account in a way that defeats access controls or gives another person access to private submissions.
You are responsible for your own use of the account and for taking reasonable care of its credentials. This does not make you automatically responsible for every unauthorised action or excuse a security failure for which we are legally responsible. Tell us promptly if you suspect misuse; never email us a password, payment PIN or verification code.
Accounts and contribution features are not intended for young children. If you lack legal capacity to enter an arrangement, obtain appropriate guardian assistance before submitting material or buying a service. Additional age or permission checks may be needed for a particular feature.
You can change supported profile fields through the dashboard and contact us to request closure or help with information you cannot change yourself. Closure and data deletion are assessed under the Privacy Policy, including published archives and records that must be retained.
3. Member and guest article submissions
You can submit through the available account workflow or the guest Write for Us form. Provide the requested headline, summary, body or document, appropriate categories, and accurate author information. Use the email field for editorial contact; do not place private contact details in the article or public biography unless publication is intentional and appropriate.
Submissions are sent for editorial review. They are not published merely because the form was accepted, a reference was generated or a category was selected. We may ask for sources, revisions, rights information or clarification, or decline a submission. There is no guaranteed response time, publication date, placement or audience.
Submit only material you wrote or are authorised to submit. This applies to photographs, illustrations, quotations, charts and attached documents as well as the article text. Disclose relevant funding, employment, commercial relationships and conflicts of interest. Tell the editor about substantial AI assistance and verify any facts, sources or citations produced with automated tools. Do not submit fabricated reporting, invented quotations or misleading credentials.
The ordinary contributor opportunity is unpaid unless a separate written agreement says otherwise. Submission alone is not a job offer, internship, employment relationship or promise of payment. A different commissioning arrangement must be expressly agreed, not inferred from an account or submission confirmation.
4. Editorial handling and publication permission
Submitting material for review allows it to be received, stored and assessed for that purpose; it does not transfer ownership of your copyright. Publication must be supported by your permission or another lawful basis. Any exclusive rights, syndication rights, payment or reuse beyond an agreed scope must be addressed separately.
Editorial preparation may involve discussing a headline, correcting spelling, formatting hyperlinks, checking sources, selecting a suitable category and preparing an image. Material changes to an author’s argument or attribution should be resolved with the contributor rather than assumed from a general submission. We may withhold publication while a factual, safety or rights concern remains unresolved.
After authorised publication, an article, agreed author name, biography and image are public and may be indexed or shared. Contact us about corrections, attribution changes or a withdrawal request. We will consider the circumstances, editorial record and applicable rights; we cannot promise to remove copies independently held by readers, search engines or other websites.
5. Acceptable use and moderation
Use the website lawfully and respectfully. You must not:
- post unlawful threats, harassment, discriminatory abuse, defamatory allegations or another person’s private information without a lawful basis;
- infringe copyright, privacy, confidentiality or other rights, or impersonate a person or organisation;
- submit spam, undisclosed advertising, malicious files or deceptive links;
- attempt to bypass authentication, exploit vulnerabilities, disrupt the service or access information you are not authorised to see;
- manufacture clicks, impressions, engagement or other activity intended to mislead readers, advertisers or measurement systems.
We may moderate or remove content and restrict a feature or account where reasonably necessary to address a breach, protect people or comply with law. Where appropriate, we will explain the issue and allow you to contact us about a mistake. Urgent security, legal or safety issues may require action without advance notice. Disagreement with an opinion does not by itself establish that it breaches these rules.
6. Copyright, links and permitted sharing
The website contains material owned by the publication, individual contributors and third-party rights holders. Logos, names and trademarks remain with their respective owners. A credit or a publicly accessible URL is not, by itself, permission to copy an image or article.
You may share links to public articles. Quotation, criticism, reporting and other uses permitted by applicable law remain available. Any quotation must be presented accurately and should identify the author and source where required. These terms do not restrict statutory exceptions or material genuinely in the public domain.
For full republication, commercial redistribution, translation, syndication or reuse of protected images, contact us and identify the proposed use. We can only grant rights we hold. Do not remove credits or imply that a modified article was approved by its original author.
Automated access must not bypass security, overload the website or unlawfully reproduce protected content or personal data. No additional licence for bulk copying or AI training is granted by these terms; any permissions or exceptions supplied by law remain unaffected.
7. Sponsored articles, corporate promotion and advertising
Commercial proposals may be sent to the contact address above. A proposal is not accepted until the scope, price, deliverables and other relevant conditions have been expressly agreed. A company, agency or representative must have authority to supply the content, marks and claims it asks us to use.
Paid placements must be clearly distinguishable from independent editorial work, for example through a “Sponsored” or “Advertisement” label. A request to remove a necessary disclosure, disguise paid material as independent reporting or promise misleading results is not part of an ordinary publishing service.
Payment does not buy a favourable independent editorial opinion. Unless expressly and lawfully agreed otherwise, we make no promise of a particular ranking, backlink benefit, sales figure, leads, audience size or platform approval. Any material commercial arrangement needs its own agreed terms rather than reliance on a general page description.
8. Voluntary support and payment queries
The Support The Indic Journal page provides a voluntary contribution option. Check the recipient and amount in your payment app before authorising payment. The QR page does not itself automatically verify the contribution or activate a membership.
Support does not purchase article publication, editorial influence, shares in a business or a paid subscription unless a separate, clear offer states otherwise. We do not represent an ordinary contribution as a tax-deductible charitable donation. Obtain your own tax advice if needed.
If you believe a payment was mistaken, duplicated or unauthorised, contact your payment provider promptly and email us with the date, amount and reference needed to investigate. Do not send complete banking credentials. Refund and cancellation requests are assessed in light of the transaction, any agreed conditions and applicable law; these terms do not impose a blanket “no refunds” rule.
9. Paid services and consumer protections
If a paid membership or other service is offered, the offer must explain its price, billing frequency, duration, renewal, cancellation and included benefits before purchase. Creating a free profile or making a voluntary contribution is not consent to recurring billing. Specific paid-service terms must be separately presented where needed.
Mandatory consumer rights, including remedies for a defective service and any applicable distance-contract withdrawal right, are not removed by these terms. In many consumer distance contracts a fourteen-day withdrawal period applies; exceptions for digital content or completed services have legal conditions and are not triggered merely by reading this page. See the Swedish Consumer Agency’s withdrawal guidance.
10. External services, privacy and service interruptions
External websites, payment apps and embedded services are operated by their own providers and may have separate conditions. Linking does not make us a party to every transaction you conduct with them. Nevertheless, this does not remove responsibility we may have for our own conduct.
Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain data handling and optional choices. Service or security emails needed for an account are different from marketing emails.
We aim to keep the site available, but maintenance, internet problems or hosting faults can interrupt access. Keep your own copy of an important submission. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that all archives, links or third-party feeds will remain accessible indefinitely.
11. Responsibility, complaints and applicable law
Website content is general information, not individual legal, medical, investment or other professional advice. Consider its date and source and obtain qualified advice before an important decision. The limits explained in the Disclaimer do not exclude fraud, wilful misconduct or any duty or liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude.
To report a problem, give us the relevant URL, a description and supporting information. Copyright complaints should identify the work, the disputed material and your authority to act for the rights holder. Privacy complaints should avoid repeating unnecessary sensitive information in a public comment. Use contact@theindicjournal.com.
Swedish law applies to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of mandatory protections or court rights available in your country of habitual residence. Nothing here requires you to waive a right to complain to a regulator, use an available consumer-redress process or bring a claim in a competent court.
12. Updates to these terms
Revisions will carry an updated date. Material changes require appropriate notice; changes to an existing paid agreement or permission to use a contributor’s work cannot be assumed merely from a silent website edit. If a term cannot lawfully be enforced, that does not remove the remaining lawful terms or mandatory rights.
